A solution contains 25 ppm (parts per million) of both potassium and chloride. Which element is present in greater molar abudance?

Answers

mass concentration of potassium = 25 ppm

mass concentration of chloride = 25 ppm

molar mass potassium = 39.1 g/mol

molar mass chloride = 35.45 g/mol

To convert mass concentration into molar concentration, mass concentration has to be divided by molar mass.

Hence, molar concentration is inversely proportional to molar mass.

Less the molar mass, higher will be the molar concentration.

Since, molar mass of chloride is less than potassium, therefore, molar concentration of chloride will be more than potassium.
