7-66 Indicate whether or not both members of each of the following pairs of physical state changes have the same thermicity (both exothermic or both endothermic). a. sublimation and condensation b. freezing and deposition og c. melting and evaporation because d. deposition and condensation

Answers

a. Sublimation occurs after heat is absorbed while heat is released during condensation. So, sublimation is endothermic while condensation is exothermic. Hence, sublimation and condensation have different thermicity.

b. Freezing occurs by releasing heat and deposition (hange from gas to solid directly) also occurs with the release of heat. So both are exothermic. Hence, freezing and deposition have same thermicity.

c. Melting and evaporation both occurs by absorbing heat. So, both are endothermic and hence have the same thermicity.

d. Deposition and condensation both occur with the release of heat. So, both are endothermic and hence have the same thermicity.
