You can find the slope of a function by looking at the coefficient of #x# in an equation. In case you forget what the coefficient is, it's the number multiplied by #x# in the equation. Here, the coefficient is #1# ... even though it's not written! Because any number multiplied by #1# does not change, we simplify the writing of #1x# as simply #x#. Had this equation been #y = 3x + 4# the slope would be #3#.

As for the intercept, to find that, set #x = 0#. In our equation this becomes #y = 0 + 4# and simplifies to #y = 4# - that's it!
