READ THE BELOW STORY-LINE AND ANSWER THE QUESTION THAT FOLLOWS:

Over the last few months, Tanya has been getting up to go the bathroom once or twice a night. During the day, she usually goes every hour. At first, she thought it was part of aging. She also drinks a lot of water and coffee during the day. She was also experiencing extreme thirst. However, the symptoms were not going away, so she went to the doctor. The doctor first performed a urinalysis, which revealed nothing. The doctor then ordered an MRI and water deprivation test, and she was diagnosed with diabetes insipidus.

Do think how Tanya might have confused the symptoms of diabetes insipidus with normal aging. Explain briefly

Answers

Diabetes Insipidus is a rare disorder that occurs when a person's kidneys pass an abnormally large volume of urine that is dilute and odorless. Tanya confussed her situation with that of aging because with aging the changes in muscles and in the reproductive system affects bladder control. With age the amount of kidney tissue decreases as well as the number of filtering units (Nephrons) decreases. Also the blood vessels which supply to kidneys become hardened thus causing the kidneys to filter blood more slowly. The elastic tissue of the bladder becomes tough as a result bladder can't hold as much urine as before. This results in frequent urination.
