Consent was obtained from patient and relative. Sterile technique was used. Local lidocaine anesthesia was used. The area was cleansed with Betadine. Patient was positioned left side down and lumbar puncture was performed at the L3-L4 interspace. A 20 gauge needle was used No complications were noted. Sufficient sample was obtained of clear CSF (cerebrospinal fluid), sent ro lab for ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSION

Diagnostic lumbar puncture is a procedure which is done to remove a small amount of cerebrospinal fluid for laboratory testing, and is reported with CPT code 62270.

Procedure category - neurological investigation

Body part - spinal tap is done between L3 -L4 or L4 - L5 , cerebrospinal fluid is taken from the subarachnoid space .

Appointment type - on out patient department basis

Local lidocaine is given before the procedure is done to anaesthetize the area . Spinal needle is used to take the CSF from the subarachnoid space . Patient is placed in left lateral position for the procedure.
