Q.1. In the case of a healthy kidney, it releases the EPO (erythropoietin hormone) responsible which promotes the production of RBCs by the bone marrow, which contains the oxygen-containing protein i.e. hemoglobin adequately.

But in the case of chronic kidney disease the kidney does not produce ample level of the EPO, which affects the RBCs production and leads to lower levels of hemoglobin and in this case i.e. 9.5 gm/dl, but the normal level is 12.5 to 16.5 gm/dl. Hence option D is correct.

Q.2. The main reason for the development of chronic metabolic acidosis in the case of chronic kidney diseases is altered ammonia excretion, altered reabsorption of bicarbonate leading to reapportion bicarbonate.
