Speech reading is mostly learned by people who are having difficult hearing,or deaf.Mostly we know what other people are saying by hearing but people who have difficulty in hearing will use this technique so that they can understand what others are speaking.

It is difficult because so many words have same look on the lips but they sound quite different.For example bat and pat may have same feeling in the lips but they sound different.And mostly people who are using speech reading also uses body language,express exp and sometimes they guess.So it is difficult to learn it.Other factors such as people who talk quiclkq,low lip movement,closing their mouths etc also make them difficult to understand.

Strategies include.

Able to see the speakers face clearly,good lighting,quiet environment,ask the speaker to talk slowly and not cover her lips and move their hands and away from their face.And ask politely if you don't know the topic they are speaking and ask them to rephrase.
