Select two different nursing theories and describe how they relate to patient care. How could you use them for inciting behavioral changes? Discuss the pros and cons of applying each theory and how they could be integrated into your future practice. Are there any particular ethical issues related to the integration of these theories that should be considered?

Answer: The two main theories in nursing are:

  • Self care nursing theory
  • Culture care theory

These two theories relates to the patients as in the self care theory it is assume that patients should takecare of themselves to recover from the disease. This theory leads to understand the patient about their healthcare problems and how they will recover fast with the help of teaching and nursing care plan.

The culture care theory focus on the culture competence as those who are culturally diverse needs more creative and understanding. The healthcare professionals should respect beliefs and values of the other cultures.

The theories have benifibe as :

  • Patient will be able to know about particular disease he is suffering from.
  • Patient can take care at home also
  • People with different cultures can feel more comfortable to express their values.
  • Cultural competence provides better opportunity to understand the patient needs.

Disadvantages are:

  • Patient always won't be able to take proper care of himself.
  • May be adverse effects occurs.
  • Not everyone can understand cultural differences.

These theories provides platform to practice the nursing care and responsibilities. It provides idea of implementation of the nursing theories.
