A mutation is a permanent change in the DNA sequence that makes up a gene. Mutations range in size from a single DNA building block (DNA base) toa large segment of a chromosome.There are-Somatic and genetic mutations.Nature of mutation depends on the type of change or effect cuased on the gene.There are mutations-that effect structure-effect function-effect the protein sequence.If the mutation is replaced by similar gene or base then the affect is minimal. If the change is with different mutant replacement, mutation will belethal.Frame shift mutaions are dangerous.Point mutaions may cause change or remain same, depending on the mutation effect.If the amino acid is repalce dby same charge amino acid then the effcet would be low.The mutaion can be repaired by the cell, to an extent.
