Yeah. Hi welcome to a video about plants we are discussing and this particular video specifically discussing firm plants in its production of spores. And so this is a multipart question. So what I'll do is I'll talk a little bit and then I'll pause the video just to make sure I get the next part right. But this little schematic here represents the sparrow fight generation of a fern. And so this for a fight is multicellular and it is deployed to in and then okay that will undergo the process of my oh sis and produce half Lloyd spores. So the spores will be um very small. There will be surrounded by our covered by a tough outer covering and there will be very many of them. So over the course of of uh yeah Of its life this firm may produce as many as 50 million spores. So that's a whole lot of potential new gamino fights and you tomato fight generations. Now obviously if the population of this fern is going to stay steady that only only one of these has to survive long enough to reproduce right? Hopefully they are adapted to uh for more than them to more than just wanted to survive. Thing is they're small and they risk drying out and they get some uh help from that by the tough outer covering. Yeah. Yeah. The 2nd part of the question asked to compare these spores. Remember these are spores which we're going to grow into the army to fight generation. The second part of the question asked us to compare the spores to seeds. So seeds would not be produced by a firm but they would be produced by something like a pine tree or an oak tree or something like that. So seeds. We did a few little scenes over here are actually two in because the seeds are the result of the union of sperm and egg, the union of gametes. And so there's actually a plant embryo um in a dormant form that makes up the seed. And so one difference between sports and see. The sports are half Lloyd seeds are deployed, however, they do both usually have a tough outer covering and that outer covering is to protect them from drying out as well as from other hazards in the environment. Um The spores and seeds are usually produced in large numbers. I would say that the spores are produced in greater numbers, but most plants produce a lot of seeds if they produce seeds. So there are some minor similarities, but a lot of differences between spores and seeds. Okay, the last part of the question asked to think about some of the factors that might come into play to determine if these sports are going to grow into a new adult. These are going to successfully survive. And so there's a lot of things, probably the biggest is moisture. They have to be kept from drying out and so they have to have a moist environment, but just like with all living things and they also have to have the proper ph there has to be um the proper gas is present in the environment as well as nutrients for these pores too, um be able to remain alive. They have to be protected from anything that might eat them. And so that protection could come in the fact that there's just a whole lot of them or the fact of where they are, how small they are. So there's there's a lot of things that determine whether a sport is gonna grow into a new gun metal fight. So moisture ph present presence of nutrients are a few of those as well as protection. So. But this gives you some idea of how a firm plant produces a new firm plant, through the generation of spores, and just a little bit about how spores are similar and different from seeds.
