Water moves via osmosis across plasma cell membranes in which direction?
a. from an area with a high concentration of other solutes to a lower one
b. from an area with a high concentration of water to one of lower concentration
c. from an area with a low concentration of water to one of higher concentration.
d. throughout the cytoplasm
Yeah, Osmosis describes the movement of water across a semi permeable membrane. A cell has a cell wall which is referred to often as a semi permeable membrane, meaning that water can float in and out but salutes or big molecules are not going to be able to move in and out as easily. So if I have a cell with some things in it, in this case, since ali it's and I have it sitting in some water, say it's sitting in a cup of water, I want to know is water going to flow from the outside to the inside or is it going to move out of the cell? That's going to depend on the concentration of both water and salutes. In this example, there's more water on the outside and fewer salutes on the inside. There is a greater concentration of salutes relative to how much water there is. So, since osmosis is ultimately trying to create a balance between how much water and salutes there are water is going to flow into the cell. So that way, there is more water relative to how many salutes there are. Again, like I said at the beginning, the solutions aren't going anywhere, they're going to remain inside the cell. So in order to have similar concentrations um inside and outside, you're going to have to have more water. So in this case, the answer choice is b that water is going to move from a high concentration of water to an area of low concentration of water
This question asked. Water moves via osmosis blink. So our answer choices are throughout the cytoplasm, from an area with a high concentration of other Salyut to a lower one from an area with a low concentration of solids to an area with a higher one, and from an area with a low concentration of water to one of higher concentration. So when we are to think of osmosis or the diffusion of water, we are referring to a process that is going to be based on Salyut concentration. And as we know, the Salyut is going to be what is dissolved, whereas the solvent is going to be the actual, uh, the substance that will allow for the dissolution of the Salyut. So if we are to take table salt and we're to put it in water than the water is the sol vent and the table salt is the solve you now choice. They will be incorrect because usually osmosis will refer to a movement of water into or out of some sort of structure. So in organ L or in actual south itself, so choice a would be incorrect. Now we just have to figure out how does this diffusion of water occur? Well, if we are to have, let's say, a cell right here and we're going to have a, ah concentration of, let's say, to sodium ions inside here and on the outside, there going to be 10 sodium ions. What direction will water move it? While the correct answer is it will move from the two sodium ions to be 10 sodium ions. So that is the direction of water flow. So the story in my hands will be solve utes, and this will have a lo solid concentration where the outside will have a high side concentration so water will move from the low salad concentration to the hike. So Salyut concentration and the choice that best matches this will be choice, see, because it states that it will. Water will move from an area with a low concentration of Salyut, which is right here to an area of high concentration of science, which is right here, and that is exactly what happens. So that is how we know that choice see will be the correct answer
On this like I'm a shows a big cough water consisting off a solution. Leave. Um, I saw you. We face a substance these off in and another substance on their stay solvent in a solvent is the substance in which being Salyut is dissolved and it's usually a liquid. So in this case, it consists. Oh, for the mall accuse. But this question in particular, um, they what? The molecules are transported across a membrane from the solution off. Lower Salyut concentration to his solution off higher Salyut concentration. You know, that was, um these little means that in this area off lower, So you concentration. That is higher, Selvin concentration and for the region off the higher saw your concentration. It is a region off lower solve in concentration. So since this time, re first to be moved. Mouth is water from a region off higher concentration. You're to the higher solvent concentration to a Lola Salman concentration. This, um, process his best describe as osmosis. And so the answer to this problem would be
Hello, everyone, this is Ricky and today we're working on a problem number nine from Chapter five. So molecules move from high concentration to low concentration. Remember, from chemistry class that brackets around something means that it's a concentration. So the scenario can describe three different affects. Simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, Sil irritated diffusion and osmosis. So up this video is helpful and I'll see you in the next one.
