And what this will do is it will leave a different length of shadow on the ground. So for the a tower that I draw there would be no shadow. And for the B tower there would be a little bit of shadow underneath. Now this principle was actually used by Era Tot Tot Sunnis. I hope. I can spell that right to make a measurement of the circumference of the earth by getting a friend to make measurements at the same time of day at one city on the earth while veritas chinese made a measurement in his own town. And this experiment can be done even today through the internet you can have schoolchildren go out and put sticks in the ground and measure the length of the shadow and talk to their buddies north of them or south of them to compare legs of the shadow. And use that information to calculate the radius of the earth. And we won't go into the math there. But it is a little bit of geometry. Yeah. Um The other reason that you could verify for yourself is um you could go out and you could look at a boat as it leaves the shore and you know it has to be going transatlantic or something like that. But watch that boat and if the Earth were flat, let's not talk about where the water goes. But if the earth were flat the boat would of course like many people have surmised over the years it would just disappear over the horizon but it doesn't it gradually sinks beneath the horizon. Kind of like as if the boat was actually kind of going into the waves. So further out you'll see the bottom of the boat disappear and eventually you'll see the sale disappear. Um So boat does not just disappear all of a sudden so sudden loss over the horizon. And the other idea I'll give is what I'll call at the edge of space. Um If you fly in an airplane and you look out the window so you know you there are a couple ways to do this is um to stand on a very tall mountain or tall cliff or tall building or to fly in an airplane would be even better. Or to take pictures from a high altitude balloon and look at your horizon. It is visibly not flat but it's definitely curved. Um And of course the higher up you are more noticeably curved that horizon appears. And by taking pictures you can actually verify the curvature very carefully of course with some bath and some some imaging tools of course several 1000 years ago you did not have cameras. So you had to rely on people's eyeballs. Um Nowadays they do have transit measuring devices that you can use to measure the curvature carefully with surveying and one last piece of evidence. I'm not sure how strong this is, but if you look at a lunar eclipse of course if you look at the moon you can tell it's round. And if you believe that the moon is a planet, if you believe the Earth is a planet a similar in composition to the moon, there would be no reason to think that the earth isn't around. But during a lunar eclipse you see the shadow of the earth on the moon. Okay. And as the eclipse progresses that round this becomes even more pronounced. Shadow of earth is curved. Now you might think well couldn't the earth be a disk shaped object? Um And that that's a little bit of a flaw with. This is uh you can't easily show that the entire Earth is a sphere just from this one curved shadow but it would be kind of miraculous if the earth were disk and it just happened to make the correct shadow on the moon every time there was a lunar eclipse. And that this shadow wood show up the same way all over the earth. Um So that's another good. Strong evidence is uh no matter where on earth observed, that would be a hard thing to explain without invoking a curb spherical earth.
